The Centre Hospitalier Intercommunal de Créteil (CHIC) wanted a colorful work that “makes you dream”, “something that accompanies care” and also benefits caregivers.
“Echappade” suggests revisiting places from the past with touches of color, using nail polish and hairspray. Léopoldine Roux can apply these pops of color in a variety of ways. The public will take ownership of these revisited old images, which will also have the ambition of creating socio-cultural links between the different generations who rub shoulders within the hospital.
Catherine Vauconsant (hospital director), Professor Bassam Haddad (obstetrician-gynecologist and chairman of the CME medical commission), Chloé Bardet (director of purchasing and logistics) and Odette Artero (senior health care executive) spoke at length about the project, the hospital, the people who work there, past artistic experiences and so on. The rich discussions focused on the place(s) where all the works would be installed, their format, and the medium, which influences the perception of material and texture. The artist had brought along some old postcards and sketches. The conversation around the postcards enabled everyone to express their expectations of the artistic project. Cheerfulness is at the heart of the project, and Leopoldine Roux will be working with the nursing team
around their color preferences and painting “motifs” for the postcards (colored rain, colored snow, trees in bloom, etc.).
In Créteil, caregivers and patients will be involved in the creative process, and a first workshop will be held in March.
